When Victor joined Xebia three years ago, he knew exactly what he was looking for. He wanted to grow, not only in technical skills, but also in perspective. At his previous job, he worked on multiple products with the same team. "That is not a bad thing," he explains, "but you mainly learn one way of working. At some point, I wanted to see more."
That desire led him to Xebia. He was looking for variety in clients, challenges, and ways of thinking. "Xebia felt like the place where I could really broaden my view," he says.
Curiosity as a career driver
Victor started his journey with a strong focus on development, but his curiosity quickly pushed him further. He wanted to understand infrastructure, architecture, and the consultancy side of the work as well. "I did not want to stop being hands-on," he explains. "But I also wanted to be part of the conversations where decisions are made."
That ambition gradually became reality. Over time, Victor moved through different roles and eventually stepped into a cloud architect position. The transition did not follow a rigid plan. Instead, it came from speaking up. "A colleague left a project and I said I would like to step into that role," he recalls. "A week later, I was there." At Xebia, that feels natural to him. "There are many opportunities, but you do need to take initiative. If you say what you want, people help you get there."
Freedom, trust, and learning together
One of the first things Victor noticed was how easy it is to ask for help. Whether through internal channels or informal conversations, support is always nearby. "If you ask a question, someone responds," he says. "Even if they are not on your project." That openness made him feel part of the group very quickly and helped his network grow organically.
For Victor, freedom at Xebia is closely tied to trust. If you have an idea or want to explore something new, there is room to do so. At the same time, you are trusted to take responsibility. That balance works well for him. With a young child at home, flexibility is also important. "You do not have to explain yourself endlessly," he says. "People understand."
Knowledge sharing plays a big role in his work. When Victor and his colleagues build something new and share their experiences, it often spreads across teams and projects. Others improve it, adapt it, and feed their learnings back. "That loop is really motivating," he explains. "It is never about showing off. It is about helping each other do better work."
What truly drives Victor is solving problems, especially in complex environments like healthcare. He enjoys guiding people, helping them think differently, and then watching them take ownership. "At some point, they take over and you can step back," he says. "That is very rewarding."
When asked how he would describe Xebia, Victor pauses for a moment. He mentions words like approachable, supportive, and forward-thinking, but one word stands out. "Gezellig," he smiles. "But also ambitious. People care about doing things right, and they want to do it together."
At Xebia, growth is not something you wait for. You step into it.
Growth starts the moment you say yes.
Step into the movement. Where people move forward together.
Growth takes many shapes.
