Every two months, a new STAP round kicks off. All inhabitants of the Netherlands – whether employed or unemployed, Dutch or EU citizen – can apply for a €1,000 grant for educational purposes or upskilling. During every application period, the government makes around €32 million available.
On this page, we'll tell you all about STAP funding, the conditions, and the application process.
PLEASE NOTE: the next application will start on July 3rd, 2023 at 10.00 a.m.
Although almost all EU inhabitants of the Netherlands are eligible for the STAP budget, you'll have to meet a few key criteria to receive the funding:
The process for applying for a STAP grant at Xebia Academy is as follows:
To make full use of the STAP budget, we've come up with a number of courses that are fully covered by STAP. These STAP Specials are some of our most-followed courses that are in English and virtually accessible. You can find them at the top of our STAP pre-registration form.
These courses are:
Pre-register now for your STAP funding
All our training courses have been added to the UWV portal. You can already pre-register with us to have some administration done before your STAP application starts. This will save time when applying for the budget. Don't forget to check your spam folder for the STAP Application Certificate!
Please be ready on May 1st 2023, at 10.00 a.m. That's when the next application round starts. Previous STAP rounds have learned us that the STAP funding is depleted within a matter of hours. So, be ready in time!
There are several criteria for receiving the STAP grant. The most important ones are:
You can submit your STAP application by using the UWV STAP portal. From March 1, 2022 onwards, you can apply for a STAP budget for financing one course per calendar year.
After your STAP approval, UWV will pay for your course and take care of all financial administration directly with Xebia Academy. When your course costs €1,000 or less (see our STAP SPECIALS to which courses you can follow for free with STAP), no further action is needed from your side.
Does your course cost more than €1,000? Then you'll have to pay the remainder yourself (or your employer). You will receive an invoice for the remaining costs.
Do bear in mind that to retain your right to the STAP budget, you must have completed the course and be able to prove it. If this is not the case, the UWV may decide to reclaim the funding from you.
You will receive your STAP registration certificate within 24 hours after submitting your data. We will first check your input and then send you the certificate. Please verify whether all the information on the STAP registration certificate is correct.
In 2023, 5 timeslots are available, every uneven month (March, May, July, September, and November). The next application period starts on July 3rd, 2023, at 10.00 a.m.
When you pre-register for training through the STAP budget, you won't have a spot on the selected training course yet. Once you're awarded the STAP grant, we'll automatically receive a confirmation from UWV and complete your registration. This means that you don't have to cancel your registration if you failed to receive a STAP grant.
The decision on awarding a STAP grant is made by UWV, the Dutch governmental institution for employment and insurance.
You can always change training courses or course dates once you've received your STAP approval. However, the new course or date should also be in the same STAP timeframe as your original course.
You do have the chance to postpone your training up to three months. Please contact UWV to arrange that as they need to approve your request.
