What is the STAP budget?

The STAP budget is a training budget provided by the Dutch government. It was officially introduced on March 1, 2022, and is intended to benefit every working person and job seeker, in any sector, looking for additional training or re-education. With a STAP grant, you can receive up to €1,000 for a training course taken to (re)train or upskill yourself.

Who is eligible for the STAP budget?

Although in general all Dutch citizens are eligible for the STAP budget, there are a few key criteria that must be met to receive the funding:

  • You are a (partner of a) EU citizen and/or resident in the Netherlands between the ages of 18 and 67 years (i.e. not retired yet) and you have a BSN number.
  • You’ve worked, lived, or received social insurance for at least 6 months since March 2020.
  • At the time of application, you do not receive any student grants, teacher grants, or school cost allowances for adults.
  • The start date of your course is at least 4 weeks after the submission of your application and a maximum of 3 months after the expiry of the application period.
  • You have not previously been awarded the STAP grant this year (you are entitled to a maximum of one STAP grant for one course per calendar year).
  • The course or training of your choice must be included in the STAP training register (all Xebia Academy courses are).

Every 2 months, a new application period starts. If the €32 million budget (for each application period) is fully depleted, you can no longer receive a grant. Thus far, we've seen that the full budget is granted within a matter of hours, so be quick, or you'll have to wait for the next application period. The next application round starts on November 1, 2022 at 10 a.m.

Applying for the STAP budget is simple. At the bottom of this page, you can register for the training course of your choice. Upon that, we will send you the STAP proof of registration. With this, you can apply online for the STAP grant with UWV. Upon approval, UWV will pay for your course and take care of all financial administration.

Does your course cost more than €1,000? Then you'll have to pay the remainder yourself (or your employer). Bear in mind that to retain your right to the STAP budget, you must have completed the course and be able to prove it. If this is not the case, the UWV may decide to reclaim the funding from you.
