The Challenge: Regulatory Changes and Outdated Systems Impacting Growth

Due to amendments in the law in Germany in early 2022, Edenred’s existing benefits solution became unviable. At the same time, the technology stack had grown complex, with four separate core systems operating on dated technologies. Customer service teams had to juggle multiple logins, which slowed response times and complicated workflows. Content management depended on the CMS that was also dated, making updates complicated. Edenred needed a unified platform that could integrate with 16 other systems, provide a smooth experience for clients and employees, and create a scalable foundation for growth.

The Approach: Building a Unified, Cloud-native Platform for Evolving Needs

Xebia worked with Edenred using agile practices, starting with Scrum and adapting the approach as the project evolved. Dedicated sub-teams were created for integrations and bug fixes to keep delivery efficient and focused.

We designed the solution as a modular monolith running on Microsoft Azure, with Angular and .NET as core technologies. A Contentful-based frontend, integrated testing, DevOps, and solution architecture ensured stability and scalability. Xebia’s training sessions on Azure fundamentals, ASP.NET, and cloud development helped Edenred’s teams adopt the new stack confidently.

The result was a single platform for clients to configure and manage employee benefits and for employees to access them through a simple, intuitive interface. Salesforce integration gave sales and customer service a single backend, reducing complexity and improving support.

The Outcome: Scalable Foundation for Future Growth

  • Faster time-to-market with the first launches in November 2024 (beneficiaries) and February 2025 (clients)
  • Simplified onboarding and management processes for employees
  • Wave-based migration is progressing, with core business client migrations now being prepared.
  • Improved user experience with unified workflows and advanced reporting
  • Centralized backend for sales and support, reducing maintenance effort

We’ve been partnering with Xebia for nearly a decade, particularly on modernizing our legacy front ends. In the Edenred Benefits development project, they introduced Agile practices and cutting-edge technologies while aligning with Edenred’s global tech strategy. Their seamless collaboration with our internal teams made this one of the smoothest projects I’ve ever led.
