Maximize your impact with Impact Mapping
Do you struggle to create plans and roadmaps that align business and delivery – and stick to them? Do you find it hard to align a diverse group of stakeholders with business objectives? Do you think you could benefit from a fast, interactive, and visual planning technique that can easily be adapted? If so, be sure to join this Impact Mapping workshop.
“I had the fortunate experience of attending Gojko Adzic’s workshop at Booster 2014 on improving user stories. I must say, that for me it was like radically rethinking the way you’re doing user stories." - Ørjen Taule
What is Impact Mapping?
A strategic planning technique that helps organizations communicate assumptions, and teams align their activities with overall business objectives to improve delivery decisions. It helps you:
- Build products and deliver projects that make an impact.
- Plan effectively and react to change, while still providing an excellent roadmap for delivery teams and a big-picture view for business sponsors.
- Reduce waste by putting deliverables in the context, and prevents scope creep and over-engineered solutions.
This Impact Mapping workshop is perfect for
This training is perfect for Product Owners, Product Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, or any other role that includes iterative (Agile/Lean/Scrum/Kanban) delivery with user stories. To get the most out of this workshop, you should have a relatively senior role, a basic knowledge of iterative delivery methods, and experience with Scrum, XP or Kanban-like delivery.
What will you learn during Impact Mapping?
During this interactive 1-day workshop, you will learn the basics of Impact Mapping and put this knowledge into practice directly. You will learn why barriers to delivering valuable products through effective collaboration arise from unshared, unexamined, unproven assumptions. We will practice the visualization of the why, who, how, and what of the problem your organization is addressing. You will explore how to improve focus and minimize waste by connecting causes with desired effects and creating a shared understanding of the objectives, expected impacts, and key assumptions. Last but not least, you will acquire the skills to facilitate strategic planning using Impact Maps by creating a big-picture view focused on key business objectives.
You will learn how to:
- Make your Backlog concise, compact and prioritized.
- Prioritize in collaboration with multiple stakeholders with competing perspectives.
- Establish a good reporting structure on outcomes rather than just monitoring velocity and activity.
- Get agreement from the team and business sponsors about which user stories are useful and which are just noise.
- Enable business sponsors to benefit from flexible scope and avoid water-scrum-fall.
- Effectively prioritize based on value.
- Avoid pet features.
- Run Impact Mapping sessions.
